In our recent paper published in Science (Balzarotti et al.) in collaboration with Stefan W. Hell, we demonstrate a new method for fluorescence microscosopy, MINFLUX, that routinely achieves 1 nm resolution. This is the ultimate spatial resolution physically meaningful for an optical method, because 1 nm is the size of the photon source, i.e. a molecule.
MINFLUX will be the base for future super-resolution fluorescence imaging and single molecule tracking.
